About Us
Greenbrier Montessori School is nestled in the planned unit development zone of Greenbrier in Chesapeake, Virginia. The safe-like home atmosphere boasts easy access from Interstate Highways and local roads alike. Here, Montessori methods are practiced within the tenets of its founder, Dr. Maria Montessori. Trained staff provide quality care and service to exclusive clientele. Greenbrier Montessori School prides itself on being small enough to know you, yet big enough to provide all that is necessary for optimum learning. We match parental intent with possible results, thereby involving the interested parent in every step of their child's development. We believe that together we can achieve. Our goal remains "To enthuse the child to his innermost core." (Dr. Montessori, 1921).

Greenbrier Montessori School was established in 1999 by Mrs. Nneka Okala, who acts as Directress. Mrs. Okala strictly upholds the philosophy and teaching methods developed by Maria Montessori. Due to Mrs. Okala's commitment, and her dedicated staff, Greenbrier Montessori has grown from the original five students in 1999 to sixty students in 2008.

The best way to evaluate the Montessori method and Greenbrier Montessori School is to visit and watch from our designated observation rooms. Available openings are extremely limited, therefore we encourage parents to apply for admission at least six months prior to the desired enrollment date.

Our Mission
Our mission at Greenbrier Montessori School is to teach children to love learning through a guided curriculum that adheres to the basic standards of the Montessori method of childhood education. This is accomplished through a system that features the "prepared environment" where the teacher, using error-controlled materials, guides the child in the quest for free learning.

We believe children learn best in an environment:

- which allows them to choose activities

- that fosters independent decisions

- provide opportunities to learn from their peers

- which encourages self-control and creative thinking

- provides freedom, encouragement, and necessary tools to be
self-sufficient in their classroom community, both academically
  and socially.

Greenbrier Montessori School is a member of the American Montessori Society, Virginia Council for Private Education, and certified and licensed by the Department of Social Services. The facility is in compliance with all the applicable Virginia laws and regulations relating to health, fire and building codes.
