Admissions Policy
It is the policy of Greenbrier Montessori School to admit students without regard to race, culture, color, creed, national and ethnic origin, sex or religion or disability. When the parent or legal guardian of a child identifies that a child has special needs, the Directress and the parent or legal guardian will meet to review the child's care requirements. GMS does not discriminate on the basis of special needs. The program accepts children with special needs as long as a safe, supportive environment can be provided for the child. In staff hiring and student enrollment we encourage diversity. Consistent with our philosophy of providing the best and most relevant service, all admissions are on a trial basis as specified in the Parent Handbook. Prospective families may call the school to reserve a visitation date. Upon visitation, prospective families are afforded the priviledge of observing a class, to better assist evaluation of our program's suitability for their child. Students may be placed on a waiting list (space contingent). The Directress approves all admissions.
Long Term Commitment - we hope that families will commit to the educational continuity afforded by GMS, where a child can be guided in a consistent method from pre-school to elementary. It is a rare opportunity to ensure the deepening and strengthening of those reasons and values that drew you to Montessori in the first place. We encourage families to visit classes and see what wonderful possibilities await your child. Such continuity, not only enhances the child's experience here at school, it also strengthens the whole school community. Children who have been able to grow here for successive years can truly become the bright role models that Maria Montessori describes: confident, caring, and self-directed people of society.
Admissions Criteria and Procedure
Prior to the child's enrollment, a conference with the parent or legal guardian and the child is required to acquaint each new family with the environment and staff. The parent or legal guardian will meet with the Office Administrator or Directress and get a tour of the school. If at this time the parent or legal guardian wishes to apply for enrollment, a student application can be made to the school with a non-refundable fee of $50.00. Upon submitting the application for enrollment, a Montessori Teacher will schedule an interview with both the parent or legal guardian and the child. Each child, ages three through twelve, may be required to attend an evaluation at the school to better assess the child prior to final enrollment. Evaluations may take two to three days.
The following forms must be completed and submitted to Greenbrier Montessori's Admissions Office prior to the child's first day of attendance. The information in these forms will remain confidential and will be shared with other caregivers only as required to meet the child's needs:
1. A one year contract tuition agreement.
2. A copy of any academic transcripts and vital records.
3. Application agreement/Parent's Understanding.
4. Authorization for pick-up.
5. Field trip authorization.
6. Education agreement.
7. Proper proof of identity, i.e. birth certificate.
8. Emergency contact information.
9. Health/physicial and immunization form signed by the child's physician.
10.Special care plan - if applicable.
A Tuition Agreement must be completed and signed for each student enrolled at GMS. The school's annual expenses, and consequently children's tuition, are calculated on the assumption that children are enrolled for the entire academic year. Therefore, the parent or guardian's obligation to pay the tuition and fees for the full academic year is unconditional and no portion of fees paid or outstanding will be refunded or canceled in the event of the student's absence, withdrawal or dismissal from the school. Parents will remain responsible for 100% of the child's remaining tuition and fees. Student transcripts will not be released unless all tuition and fees have been paid in full.
Upon acceptance, a non-refundable registration and activity fee of $300.00 shall be paid to the school along with a non-refundable $300.00 deposit towards the first month's tuition.
There is a non-refundable materials fee of $100.00 for students enrolled in the Elementary Program. This fee is due at time of acceptance.
Tuition payments made monthly are due the first day of each month beginning August 1st with the last payment due May 1st. Quarterly payments are due August 1st, November 1st, and February 1st.
All enrollment fees and tuition payments are non-refundable.
Each child accepted into the program will be required to purchase a "GMS" back pack.
The admission hierarchy is as follows:
1. Re-enrollment of current students.
2. Enrollment of siblings of current students.
3. Enrollment of transfers from other Montessori schools.
4. Date of application for other applicants..
5. Student evaluation.
All new enrollments are provisional, subject to the student's reactions to the program during the period specified in the Parent Handbook. When your child becomes a part of the program, we will expect your support and trust that you will find ways to help us do our job better.
